During today’s meeting of the Municipality, the representatives of the Tuzla Association of Musicians informed the Mayor Jasmin Imamović about the realized activities concerning the nomination of Sevdalinka for the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Together with the ethnologist of the East Bosnian Museum, Vesna Isabegović, the members of the Association presented an initiative of the State Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO concerning the inclusion of Sevdalinka on the UNESCO list as an intangible asset of national importance.
The initiative has been accepted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and the State Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, respectively, and has been forwarded for processing.
Tuzla’s Mayor Jasmin Imamović praised the members of the Tuzla Association of Musicians for their activities aimed at preserving the Sevdalinka as one of the most important cultural assets within the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
“For a cultural asset to be accepted by UNESCO, it is important that it be preserved as part of the existing cultural heritage. Thanks to the Tuzla Association of Musicians and the Sevdalinka Festival, which has been taking place in Tuzla for almost ten years, this condition has already been fulfilled and I thank you and congratulate you” said Tuzla’s mayor.

During the meeting, there was also talk about the organization of the 9th Sevdalinka Festival, which will take place in April 2017 in Tuzla.
